FAQ and Warranty

Craftsmanship Warranty

We assure the integrity of our craftsmanship and warranty all of our jewelry from defects for one year from the date of purchase. The first year of coverage includes any structural repairs to your new deJonghe purchase. Kindly note that this does not include loss, theft, or damage to the jewelry or to gemstones. We strongly recommend acquiring specific jewelry insurance from Jeweler’s Mutual Insurance or a rider on your homeowner’s policy that would appropriately cover any loss, theft, or damage. It is your responsibility to cover the costs to ship and insure your jewelry when shipping to deJonghe. deJonghe will return the jewelry via insured USPS Mail.

Gemstone Warranty

Within the first year, we will replace diamonds under 0.08ct (2.7mm and smaller) if they are lost from the settings free of charge. Should there be damage to the gemstone (chip, scratch, break, etc) deJonghe will perform the repair at cost to the client. Any gems, subject to availability, will be replaced at cost plus shipping to the client. Colored gems are much softer than diamonds, and can easily chip, scratch, or break if placed under undue stress or if not worn within our recommended guidelines.

What is your shipping/insurance process?

All shipping costs would be at the client’s expense including repairs. We take the necessary precautions to ship expensive jewelry in the safest possible manner, as advised by Jewelers Mutual. However deJonghe Original Jewelry will not be held responsible for any lost or stolen packages. Handling these instances falls to the carrier. Please be sure to insure and track any jewelry you ship to us. We recommend shipping via US Postal Service (registered) or UPS (2-day or overnight). Do NOT ship your jewelry via FedEx.

Do you do jewelry repair?

We take pride in our fine craftsmanship. We go above and beyond most jewelry stores service to ensure our customers have a positive experience. Please note that we do not offer repair service on other jeweler’s or designer’s work. The list of designers that we will not repair includes, but is not exclusive to: David Yurman, John Hardy, Cartier, etc. We will also not repair any costume, sterling silver, or invisible setting jewelry.

Do you clean jewelry?

Yes! In fact we advocate you get your jewelry checked and cleaned at least twice a year (a good way to remember is on your anniversary and birthday – if they are far enough apart). For our customers we always offer complimentary cleaning and checking. We strongly disagree with stores that sell “add on” service agreements and we will never charge for this service on our jewelry. There may be a small fee to polish your jewelry.

Do you rhodium plate jewelry?

Yes. This service starts at $75 but please contact us for an exact quote since it depends on the complexity of the jewelry. Our rhodium process begins with a complete and thorough polish and cleaning to ensure a high quality rhodium plating.

Do you source stones?

Yes, we design and create with our own gems. Here are the reasons why:

  1. Ethically sourced. We are members of AGTA and AGS and we have cultivated close relationships with international gem brokers. We personally know our sources and their expertise.
  2. Working within our clients budget we will search for the best selection and advise our clients.
  3. We study all of the characteristics of a gem’s quality and if that particular gem is suitable for the design. In addition it is very critical how the gem is cut and how can it be set.

Will you set my gem?

Many clients will bring us a family gem to create that special ring. We welcome collaborating with clients using a family heirloom that adds sentimental value to the finished creation. However we will not be held responsible or insure the customer’s gem for any damage incurred during setting. We recommend adding an insurance policy that will cover setting. We will not evaluate or advise clients on gems they have purchased online.

Does deJonghe do appraisals?

Yes. We use a trusted third party source for appraisals. It is $150 for the first initial appraisal and $75 for additional items. However all diamond engagement rings purchased at deJonghe’s receive a full documented appraisal from a third party gem lab. This is a complimentary service.

*The diamond must also be purchased at deJonghe’s

Do you sell globally?

Yes – once fees are secured by a major credit card or bank check we are happy to ship internationally. Please note each country has different taxes and duties that may need to be paid to clear your items. All customs fees, taxes and duties are the client’s responsibility.

How long does a custom project typically take?

Turnaround time is usually impacted by numerous factors  – including, but not limited to, client stone approvals, multiple design and CAD revisions, and varying amounts of time for casting and setting the jewelry based on the complexity of the design. Time of year is also a critical factor. Saratoga Springs experiences a busy summer season and of course holiday season. Custom jewelry can typically be created within 8 to 10 weeks from initial deposit payment.

How many rounds of change do I get?

We offer 2 complimentary rounds of wax, CAD, or design. However as we are a family business we are flexible. Charges for design and CAD changes are subject to the complexity and scope of the changes desired. We will not bill you for minor and easy changes to a design.

How will I receive my finished jewelry?

deJonghe will notify you when your piece has been completed and available for pickup. If you are not a local to Saratoga Springs, deJonghe will ship the jewelry to you (see our shipping policy). Payments can be made on our secure website: www.dejongheoriginals.com/make-a-payment

Kindly note that deJonghe is not responsible for lost or stolen packages. Please be sure to insure and track any jewelry you ship to deJonghe should repairs be needed.
