The People Behind the Jewelry
Two Generations
The deJonghe Family
deJonghe Original Jewelry has been a family business since Dennis and Peg opened the studio doors in 1982. Today, two generations of the deJonghe family bring their individual talents to every part of the business.

Founder | Jewelry designer | Goldsmith
Dennis deJonghe
Dennis deJonghe discovered his passion for metalwork while earning his Master of Arts degree at SUNY Buffalo. A single jewelry course changed his path entirely. "I took a jewelry course and fell in love with the entire process," he recalls. "Metal work offered a three-dimensional form and I began to view jewelry as miniature sculpture."
After completing his degree in 1975, Dennis worked as a goldsmith in Rochester and briefly in the Virgin Islands before earning recognition in juried craft shows and galleries across the country. Several shows in Saratoga Springs convinced him the city's artistic community was the right home for his studio. He and his wife Peggy opened deJonghe Original Jewelry on Caroline Street in 1982, eventually relocating to their current Broadway location as the business grew.
Now with more than four decades in the craft, Dennis has earned national acclaim -including recognition from the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) and the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA). His work has been featured in National Jeweler and other fine jewelry publications.
I approach my designs as miniature sculptures, to be viewed from all sides and to enhance the body. I regard the quality of craftsmanship and materials as equal to the integrity of design.
Dennis is active in the Saratoga Springs community, serving as past president of the Downtown Business Association, founding member of the Saratoga County Arts Council, executive board member of the former New York Craft Association, a 10-year chairperson of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, and Dennis was instrumental in the development of the Saratoga Rowing Association. He continues to be involved in the Saratoga community through various charities and local events.

Jewelry Designer | Graduate Gemologist
Evan deJonghe
Evan deJonghe grew up in his father's studio, absorbing the design philosophy and wax carving techniques that define the deJonghe aesthetic. After earning a business degree with a marketing focus from McGill University, he returned to jewelry - enrolling at the Gemological Institute of America in 2012 to complete both the Applied Jewelry Arts (AJA) program and the Graduate Gemologist (GG) degree.
Evan's designs blend traditional crafting techniques with contemporary technology, and his deep knowledge of gemstones informs every piece he creates. In 2014, he won the MJSA Vision Award for a one-of-a-kind Boulder Opal Pendant - work that was featured in the MJSA Journal and covered locally by The Saratogian.
A lifelong Saratoga Springs resident, Evan was on the board of Universal Preservation Hall from 2016 to 2023 to support the city's performing arts and cultural community. Today he is raising his family in Saratoga Springs with his wife and three children, and you'll often find them in the studio - a reminder that deJonghe Original Jewelry has always been about family, craft, and community.
My fascination with gemstones adds to the enjoyment of creating fine jewelry. I like to challenge myself to find a pleasing balance of shape and color - with precious metals and quality craftsmanship, designs are transformed into beautiful jewelry.
Founder | Operations
Peg deJonghe
Peg has been part of deJonghe Original Jewelry from day one - and the business wouldn't run without her. She manages the backend operations that keep everything moving: inventory, ordering, billing, and the paperwork that holds it all together. You may occasionally catch a glimpse of her from the office, quietly making sure everything is in order.

Designer | Graduate Gemologist
Sarah deJonghe
Sarah brings the deJonghe story to life beyond the studio walls through creative direction, marketing, and visual storytelling. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Communication Design with a minor in Art History from the University at Buffalo and is a Graduate Gemologist (GG) from the Gemological Institute of America, combining her background in art and design with gemological expertise.
Prior to returning to deJonghe, she worked with luxury jewelry brands in New York City in creative and client-focused roles. She also contributed to the development of the book Oscar Heyman: The Jewelers' Jeweler, by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
In addition to her creative role, she guides many of deJonghe’s philanthropic initiatives, continuing the family’s long-standing commitment to the Saratoga Springs community.

Designer | Operations | Graduate Pearls
Bekah deJonghe
Bekah grew up in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she developed a strong foundation rooted in hard work and creativity. She went on to pursue her passion for helping others by earning her BS from The University of Rhode Island and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.
Today, Bekah balances her career in healthcare with her role at deJonghe's - she plays an integral role in day-to-day operations: overseeing ordering, quality control, and shipping logistics.
As the designer behind our beaded collections, Bekah brings a thoughtful and artistic vision to each piece. She holds a Graduate Pearls accreditation from the Gemological Institute of America, reflecting her expertise and commitment to quality.

Master Bench Jeweler
Sheila Cote
Sheila has been at the bench at deJonghe Original Jewelry for over 20 years - long enough to have watched the studio grow and the second generation find their footing. A master craftswoman, she has an exceptional command of her technique and a deep understanding of the deJonghe design aesthetic. Much of the jewelry you see in our cases exists because of Sheila's hands.

Chief Morale Officer
Rocky
No introduction to the deJonghe team would be complete without Rocky - Evan's dog and the studio's most enthusiastic greeter. You'll find him in the shop nearly every day, ready to say hello. He keeps the team happy, the atmosphere warm, and somehow always seems to be around when inspiration is needed.
